  • Open Letter to the Politicians of the US

    It needs to be said and I’m not quite sure why you haven’t figured it out yet yourself. We are a vain country, the most read or listened to news story’s are about Hollywood stars not the men and women dying everyday in Iraq. We spend billions of dollars each year on beauty products of all kinds for all kinds of people. Bulimia and Anorexia run rampant in our nation, skyrocketing above the rates in other nations. A few pounds can make or break a career for some here. That all being said…

    Do we really need a politician to run for President of the US who looks more like a nursing home patient than a politician? Seriously Mr Lieberman, its time to give up on this pipe dream. If its truly necessary, we can get you an intern that will do secret things to you… but the Presidency isn’t going to happen. We care too much about how things look here for you to make it to the Oval Office. And Ralph Nader that goes for you too, while you may not look like a Nursing Home victim… Your looks leave a lot to be desired. We wont elect you… consider plastic surgery, please.

    Think about this folks, the future of our nation truly lies in how good a man looks. Hell if we put women into the mix, lets just keep the mud out of it ok?

  • Choosing Battles

    Our President could be spending his time, energy and influence on getting our troops home safely from a war that he started erroneously. Instead, he and the GOP have decided the most important thing for them to focus on is discrimination and ways to encourage hate across the country.

    How can same sex marriage be primary on an agenda when brave men and women of our country are losing their lives EVERY DAY. How is the private lives of people who love one another more important that saving lives of an American soldier?

    Do our soldiers mean that little to you Mr. President? Are they just one more sacrifice in your vast agenda? Do you care so little for freedom, love and life that you have to focus on ways to ignite this blaze of hate in our country?

    Figure out what’s important here… Sure this got you elected, but don’t you think the lives of American’s in danger every day, because of your decisions and lies, should be first on your list?

  • Unofficial National Plan

    President Bush’s plan for securing our nations borders is awe inspiring, and so brilliant it should be applied to all of our nations problems.

    Senior Citizens not signing up for an appropriate Medicare plan? Send in the National Guard.

    Brittney Spears’s child safety seat not the most popular one? Send armed personnel to show her right from wrong.

    The Da Vinci Code a violation of what’s right? Send in our men and women to block the movie from being seen.

    Lawsuits being filed due to the NSA tapping our phone lines? Send in Dick Cheney with his shotgun.

    If it’s not being done to our liking, lets send in the troops and make it all better. This is the new strategy for our great nation.

  • Curious George

    “People don’t need to worry about security.” George W. Bush

    Ah, but we do Monkey Boy! You and your people have been telling us to worry about security for 6 odd years… You can’t have it both ways! We can’t rely on Dick Cheney for security, he only shoots American’s.

    Attempts by you and Brokeback Cheney to get your terrorist/oil rich friends access to our ports will fail… I hope.

    Yes Mr. President, we have to worry about security, you and Dick are busy shooting old men.

  • World AIDS Day – December 1, 2005

    Today is the day when the world stops to recognize HIV and AIDS. World leaders will make promises, organizations will post truths (HRC, Avert, UNAIDS) and millions will wear red ribbons.

    The last three years on December 1, I stood most of the day at work and handed out ribbons to everyone who passed by, making sure they knew the significance and getting them literature too if they needed it. Today, I’ll wear my ribbon to school, and pocket a couple extra to hand out to those interested.

    There are only 4 ways to become infected with HIV:
    1. Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner (the most common);
    2. Sharing needles or other contaminated injection or skin-piercing equipment;
    3. Blood and blood products through, for example, infected transfusions and organ or tissue transplants;
    4. Transmission from infected mother to child in the womb or at birth and breastfeeding.
    (WorldAidsDay.org)

    HIV/AIDS does not care if you are gay or straight, black or white, catholic or protestant, 65 or 5 years of age. HIV/AIDS can and does infect each and every single subdivision of life-whether you know it or not someone close to you has HIV.

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services notes that since 1981, when AIDS was first identified in the United States, more than 20 million people worldwide have died of the disease. Today, more than 40 million people worldwide are estimated to be living with HIV or AIDS.

    In the United States alone, an estimated 1 million to 1.2 million Americans are now living with HIV, and 35,000 to 40,000 new infections are occurring every year.
    (CNN.com article here)

    For the last five years I worked with one of the finest pediatric HIV teams in the world, and each and every child and family-affected and infected with HIV-is one more they show how to live and hope. The hearts of medical, psychological and social professionals that help families with HIV are the largest hearts in the world. They care day in and day out, they ensure extraordinary measures are taken everyday in regards to their clients.

    Today, I urge you: wear a condom, wear a red ribbon, write a politician. Don’t let today go by without acknowledging this global epidemic.

  • Congressional Recess (Essay 2, Grade: B+)

    In recent times our government seems to have lost touch with what matters in favor of the frivolous and seemingly unimportant. The evidence clearly points to a loss of direction with Congressional Investigations into why CEOs of Oil companies are rich, a congressional recess called after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina or even the short lived “Freedom Fries” movement:

    …all references to “french fries” and “French toast” on the menus of the restaurants and snack bars run by the House of Representatives would be removed. House cafeterias were ordered to re-name french fries as “freedom fries.”

    Such actions demand congressional investigations into why our lawmakers have difficulty passing laws for universal health care, lowering the cost of malpractice insurance or finding alternative energy sources for the ever increasing cost of oil. In our country helping the poor, unemployed, homeless, and disaster victims should be paramount in the minds of our leaders. It is high time for the voters to decide what is important enough for our lawmakers to spend extra time on.

    To appease the religious right, lawmakers wrote and passed “Terri’s Law”—ordering a feeding tube reinsertion—in less than one week. Enough members of the House and the Senate showed up to work on a Saturday and the President cut short one of his many vacations to ensure the measure passed into law. Elected officials used powers—they were entrusted with—to pass a law for one individual. Is this an example of “We the People?” Will there be an individual law written for your benefit also?

    Looking at the Patriot Act, a measure passed almost immediately following the events of September 11th, we see transgressions that laugh in the face of freedom. At the time, political careers ended for those that didn’t sign, they were obviously “unpatriotic”. In Michael Moore’s controversial documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, a member of Congress readily admits “We don’t read these bills.” Was this one they should have found the time to read?

    Running our country are the groups with money such as the “religious right”, the NRA, Big Oil. These organizations dictate the path of American values through lobbyists and money; is this path a direction you had envisioned?

    Who watches the watchmen? Who do our leaders report to? Who elected them? The answer to all three is you and me; ultimately we are the ones in charge as we put them in office. Our responsibility, as Americans, is to ensure they do the job we elected them to do, not the jobs the feel pressured into. Demand answers, action and results or sit idly by as truth, justice and the American way come to exist only in the world of comic book heros.

  • Coincidences

    Amazing!

    Every time Monkey Boy (a.k.a George W Bush) makes a speech in favor of the “war” on “terror”

    1. the U.S. SUDDENLY intercepts messages from one terrorist to another

    and or

    2. a “specific threat” occurs in a major metropolitan area

    In a week or two on page 9 of the papers, in a little itty bitty section… we’ll hear this information is several years old…

    O what’s the use anyway? Who is John Galt?
