Weird Ol Jamezovich

Sometimes I rewrite famous songs – ala Weird Al … I’ve been doing this for a long, long time. The first song I ever did like this (well that I performed anywhere) was George Michael’s I Want Your Sex which I did as I Want Your Socks and had a laundry basket with real laundry too onstage at G-E-T High and then got a job singing in a band. I don’t recall all the lyrics, but I remember it went well and was one of the criteria the music teacher used to get me a “letter” in music… not a goal I had in high school.

the hats for the song
the hats for the song

Recently here at work we had a special person move to the east coast and had a farewell lunch for her at Humble Pie (local restaurant – good pizza) and I rewrote Don McLean’s American Pie to bye bye at Humble Pie

A long, long time ago

Kathy can still remember how that Tipton used to make her smile

And she new if she had her chance that she could make that Tipton pack

And maybe we’d be prepared for a little while

But the injuries made them shiver with every cut or little sliver

Bad news on the doorstep – we couldn’t take one more step

I can’t remember if I cried when I read about her planned goodbye

Something touched us deep inside the day that Tipton said goodbye…

So bye, bye Tipton

Drive your CC to the East Coast and wave bye bye

Us AZK12 workers will sit here and cry

Singing this’ll be the day she says goodbye

This is the day she says goodbye

Did you pack for Plug and Play and do you think it’ll all fit in the car?

If Cheryl tells you so

And do you believe in the IPDP and National Board, save your teachers soul? And…

Can you teach us how to pack, real slow…

Well I know that you’ll miss us cause I saw you crying in the print room

You dropped brochures on your shoes, and oh man what a bruise

We’ll be lonely, lonesome staff with AZK12 Pink flyers in Andrew’s pick up truck, but …

I know we’ll be out of luck, the day that Tipton says goodbye

So bye, bye Tipton

Drive your CC to the East Coast and wave bye bye

Us AZK12 workers will sit here and cry

Singing this’ll be the day that she says good bye

This is the day she says goodbye

Now for the future she’ll be on her own and moss grows fat on a rolling stone…

But that’s not how it used to be

When Jakester sang at the Humble Pie with a coke he borrowed from Kristi

In a voice that’s sad and weepy

Oh and while the team was looking down, Tipton went and fooled around

She sliced her thumb and Jess fixed her up

And while the rest of us were working hard – Tipton got more and more scarred

We sang dirges in the dark – the day that Tipton went bye

We were singing bye bye at Humble Pie

Drove our cars to the restaurant and started to cry

Our dear friend Tipton was saying goodbye

This’ll be a day that I cry

This’ll be a day that I cry

Helter Skelter in the summer swelter – the crew went off and wisher her better

100 degrees and climbing fast

And we were singing –

Bye Bye Miss Tipton goodbye

Drive your CC to the East Coast and don’t you cry

When you say goodbye oh the tears we’ll cry

Singing this’ll be the day she says goodbye,

this’ll be the day she says goodbye…

This went over quite well…

Then a good friend Michelle said goodbye to the center and we needed another song… so my friend Liana helped me to re-write Baby Got Back by Sir Mix a Lot to – Michelle Got Back and we did a video:

Oh, my, god. Jamez, look at her type!
She’s so fast. [scoff] She works that info account,
unless she just pretends?
But, you know, who responds to all those emails? *scoff* I know who, Michelle does, because,
she wants to help the AZK12 group, ‘kay?
I mean, her brain, is just so big.
I can’t believe it’s just so round, it’s like,
out there, I mean wow. Look!
She’s just so … FLY!

We like Michelle and we cannot lie
Our coworkers can’t deny
That when Michelle walks in, with a smirk on her face and puts her laptop in her space, we have FUN!
and all professional too, that girl is tough
Deep jokes she’s sharing
I’m hooked and I just keep laughin

Oh, Michelle you going to school
You know what to do
my homeboys tried to warn me
but with you leaving we’ll be so lonely oooh

You say you wanna go to events? Well food me, food me
Cause you ain’t that average groupie I’ve seen them packing

to hell with that I’m laughin

She’s sweet in the 100 Suite Got it goin’ like a turbo ‘Vette tired of orange mailings
when she hears the phone ring take the call, never starts to ball she gotta pack that punch

So, fellas! (Yeah!) Fellas! (Yeah!)
Has your assistant got the tact? (Hell Yeah!) Tell ‘em to make it, make it
Make that teacher pay up
Michelle got Back!

We like her around, and here when we’re throwin a gig
we just can’t help ourselves, your absence should be nominal Now here’s our scandal

you get to go home
and ugh, doubleup, ugh, ugh
we know you’ll miss us
cause AZK12 is the bidness
I know we’ll shed a tear
knowing you wont be hear
we’ll never be able to replace your spot cause you’ve got it all in here
Michelle got back!

Yeah, homie … when it comes to payin’ up, teachers ain’t got nothin’
on Money Making Michelle. $35$40$65? Ha ha, only if it’s National Board.

Then when the team were all out of the office and I was all alone I did a quick redo of Willie Nelson’s On The Road Again – as All Alone Again see video below

And today for National Bosses Day I wrote the following (with help from my friend Liana) to Frank Sinatra’s My Way for my boss Kathy:

AZK My Way – by JR Prudlick and L Favella

And now, the day is here

And so you face the celebration

My Boss, we’ll say it clear

We’ll state our case, of which we’re certain

You’ve led us right, a job that’s full

You traveled each and every highway

And more, much more than this, you did the AZK Way

Events, we’ve had a few

But then again, that’s our intention

You did what you had to do and saw them through with no exception

You planned each one, a charted course each careful step in Arizona

And more, much more than this, you did the AZK Way

Yes there were times, I’m sure you knew

The road got tough, a shade of blue

But through them all, when we had doubts

You had our backs with a hearty shout

We faced it all and we stood tall – we did the AZK Way

You’ve worked, you’ve laughed and cried

You had your fill, your share of musings

And now, as fall arrives, you’ll find us all respecting

To think, you did all that

And may we say, not in a shy way

Oh no, oh no not us… we did it your way

For what is a boss and what’s she got

If not for you then we are naught

To say the things we truly feel, and say them loud with lots of zeal

The record shows what we all know, you did it the AZK Waaaaaay!
