The first thing that comes to mind is the still photograph on CNN, of the impact site on the first tower. In the background we could see another plane headed in the same direction; then we knew it was more than an accident. I was working at Children’s Hospital on the 6th floor. When the second tower was hit people started to get a little crazier saying it must have been an accident or something. When Sheila came screaming out of her room “They’ve bombed the Pentagon!!!” I remember thinking that she had to be crazy… the Pentagon has to be the most secure building on the planet… no way could then bomb it. But, the smoke we could see from the window confirmed her story only a bomb could make that column of smoke so big.

The phones in DC lit up, everyone was trying to call someone to check on them. They hospital sent messages asking everyone not to use the phones cause the government needed them. That didn’t stop people, I did manage to call my hyperventilating mom, and my clueless friends who were busy at work and not watching the news… Midwest Work ethic!

People were in tears, freaked out. Some people didn’t understand the impact at all and asked “Was her kid on the plane? If not, why is she crying?”

Everyone was sent home early, they said on the news not leave your house if you didn’t have to. I and probably the rest of the nation then watched the two towers collapse on live TV. Then the images were put into cycles, they would show the crash over and over again. It became a little more than disturbing.

There was a caravan of tow trucks inching along the road near the pentagon, each one of them had a flag shown proudly honking their horns as they drove past. The huge black spot marring the surface of what I had assumed would never be marred, the Pentagon. The firemen near the Pentagon, the military in the streets of DC that appeared from nowhere. Acts that seemed entirely too childish or silly; banning french fries from menus, gathering on the front steps to say the Pledge of Allegiance, saying it was God’s way of punishing us for Gays and liberals.

Mostly I look back and see those images in my head and start to tear up. Today I can’t do sirens well… everytime I hear them or see an emergency vehicle of some kind I start to tear up; its probably some kind of PTSD. I don’t want to forget though, I never want to forget the images and feelings associated with that day. I don’t want you to forget either.

  • Idiotic

OK, Turner is going to edit Tom and Jerry Cartoon’s where the characters are smoking (story here) . This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read in my life… Why stop with Tom and Jerry, lets change Little Red Riding Hood to be a non-gender specific book, and remove the wolf as it may frighten the children…

How long before we start to change novels that have words that may be offensive today in famous stories? Lets remove the “N” word from every book ever written, and lets take “gay” and “Homo” out too… I have a better idea, lets wrap ourselves up in bubble wrap so we can never experience… this will save the naysayers and protect those who don’t know they should be naysayers!!!!!!!

Tom and Jerry are classic cartoons that should be left alone.

  • New Job

So this week I started at my new job with Ann’s husband John in Takoma Park. So far things are going well, there is lots to do there. Right in front of myself, and Leslie (the office manager) is a huge reorganization… things are everywhere. It’s not the worst I’ve ever seen… but it’s bound to be a challenge. My commute is about 30 – 45 minutes which isn’t bad at all, I’ve been writing in my little Mole Skin on the way out there, kind of leave me with lots of time to do that.

So today, I get a call from Washington Hospital Center with a job offer, I’m almost certain, I haven’t been able to get her on the phone, but I doubt I’d take it.

    Yes, the rumors are true!

  • Listening Station

    What am I listening to?

Under the Influence Of Giants, their self titled debut album is spectacular. I seriously listen to it over and over again. Trust me here, give it a listen, its very catcy fun and has a great beat.

  • One Angry Gnome (WOW Story)

When Mancy was but a wee lad gnome, his step-father, Oxen, had pushed his mother into a well and left her to die. His mothers death-bed confession explained thoroughly what happened, “He ran off to live with his orc mistress. She lives south east of the capital city of Ogrimar, I had confronted her relationship with your father many years ago. She laughed in my face and almost killed me on the spot. The night he pushed me into the well she was standing right beside him. Avenge me Mancy, avenge me!!!”

At the tender age of ten, Mancy set off to learn skills that would enable him to track his step-father down and make him pay for his wicked ways. A master of deception took him in and taught him the ways of the mysterious rogues. He learned how to travel the vast world in a cloak of deception and guile.

The long standing effects of Gnomeragan radiation had taken their toll on the lad, his hair had disappeared everywhere except his face; worse than that it had turned a very distinctive pink color.

It had been ten years since Mancy started his quest; to locate his step-father and hold him accountable for the death of his mother. There had been close calls over the years; several times where he had arrived at an inn only to find his quarry had departed only days ahead of him. Once a rumor had sent him all the way to Azshara only to find a dwarf named Axen not Oxen. Along the way he met many people, joined many raids to defeat perilous monsters and hordes of horde. Always with an eye or an ear to hear where the murder might be next.

Finally he had found him, hot on the trail of Oxen and that tramp orc woman he raced; his mechanical steed smoking profusely in the burning desert of Silithus. They came upon the Gates of Ahn’Qirai, his mount was slowly gaining on the duo…when in a shimmer of magic they disappeared. Not to be dismayed, Mancy raced forward, cringing a little as he reached the shimmering wall. And he stopped short, unable to venture forward alone.

Gathering a host of friends, he set off into the vastness of Ahn’Qirai; yet his step-father and his mistress were nowhere to be found. The trail ended, none could decipher where his father had gone; Mancy felt as if his entire existence had come to naught.

In desperation he sought out the king of gnomes in the capital city of Iron Forge; desperate for some hope in fulfilling his mothers last request. The king looked kindly upon Mancy, and sent him to the royal engineer.

Gnimish, the royal engineer, was just a few feet away and had heard Mancy’s dilemma. He had used a gnomish communication device to request the aid of the high warlock between the two of them they had divined where his father had gone: a alternate reality.

Mancy was astounded; he wasn’t sure how such a thing was possible or how he would ever reach the end of his journey. Gnimish and the high warlock conversed secretly before giving Mancy this one shred of hope.

“We can transport you there, between the wonders of gnomish technology and the magic’s of the high warlord, you can continue your quest and be at ease.” At this Mancy’s ears perked up and his heart swelled once again with hope. “However,” said Gnimish “It’s a one way trip, we cannot bring you back to this reality once you go.”
Mancy thought long and hard about this choice. He sought the sage advice of his comrades, who all thought he should go but would miss him dearly. One of his friends suggested he change his name, as his father would only be expecting him to follow, not someone else. Mancy took their advice and changed his name to Bubo.

In the chamber of the gnomish king, he stood before a frightening contraption that the royal engineer had pointed at him. Waving good bye to his friends and taking a hard swallow he said “I’m ready”.

The flash of light was instant, he hardly knew anything at all had happened or was going to happen; all he could see was a bright green light and then felt the sensation of falling forever. Part of him remembered the time he had used a gnomish mind-control cap and was seriously wounded in an explosion. Why hadn’t he remembered that sooner…? BOOM!

The falling sensation had stopped; he was covered head to toe in what appeared to be fish oil. But he was there, where ever there was. Everything looked the same as it had when he had left, but none of his friends were there, nor the high warlock or royal engineer.

“I’ll find you father, if it’s the last thing I do I’ll find you and you’ll pay for your crime…” Mancy said to himself… no, not Mancy. Bubo. I’m Bubo now.

  • School

    … is frustrating right now.

  • Athletes Elite

I’m tired of Drug Testing scandals on the news, it distracts from the really important stories; like the wax Brangelina baby or a Suri Cruise sighting. Lets decide here and now to do away with steroid testing entirely.

I want to see what kind of monster killers we can breed with drugs for the Olympics. Of course all countries would be able to do the same, lets imagine the super elite athletes in every major sporting event known to man. If steroid use isn’t enough, perhaps we could do some genetic splicing, play with the genes of our children until their skin is as hard as steel…

It’s bound to happen anyway, or just more clever ways of avoiding detection.

  • Jury Duty

I was called for Jury Duty, almost as soon as I arrived back in town. Contrary to popular belief, financial and job issues are NOT good enough reasons to be excused from Jury Duty.

I arrived at 8:05 or so (yes, I got lost) and stood in the very long line for 10 minutes. Then sat and read The Pilots Wife until they finally called a group for jury selection, luckily I was in that group.

I was the 5th group of 14 to go in, and as soon as we sat down the judge sent us to lunch until 1:15. At 1:15, they were still not ready for us… it was 3:45 before they started to pick the panel. The juror to the left of me, and the juror to the right of me were both picked.

What bugs me is the picks for the jury. The two plaintiffs were black, and there were several juror choices that were black. One of the plaintiffs lawyer and the judge were also black. But the jury was 75% white, and every man that ended up on the panel was white. Maybe its just me, but this hardly seems like a “jury of my peers” to the two defendants. Now I realize, the candidates that were black could have issues that would not allow them to be fair and impartial in the case, but all of them?

OK, it just struck me as odd is all.
